These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the OTBSync application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service"), operated by OTBSync ("we", "us", or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
OTBSync uses your device's camera to detect chess moves made on a physical board and relay them to a connected online chess account. Camera frames are processed on your device to detect moves; OTBSync does not stream or store your video.
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, if higher) to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
The Service integrates with third-party platforms such as Lichess. Your use of those platforms is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. OTBSync is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Lichess or any third-party platform. You are responsible for complying with the terms of any account you connect, and you must not use the Service in a way that violates those terms, including any prohibition on external assistance in rated play.
OTBSync interacts with Lichess only through Lichess's official Board API, using the access you grant through OAuth. It does not automate the Lichess website, simulate clicks or keystrokes, inject input into your browser, or scrape web pages. Because it relays your own over-the-board moves through this supported, sanctioned interface, it is designed to operate within Lichess's intended integration methods rather than by circumventing them. This is a description of how the Service works, not a guarantee of any account outcome: we do not control Lichess, and Lichess may take action on any account at its discretion. You remain responsible for playing your own moves and for complying with Lichess's fair-play policies.
Some features rely on additional third-party services and components: premium voices are downloaded by your browser from the Hugging Face model repository, and analysis features use the open-source Stockfish chess engine, which runs locally in your browser under the GNU GPL v3. These services are described in our Privacy Policy and are subject to their own terms and licenses.
You agree not to: (a) use the Service to cheat, gain an unfair advantage, or violate the rules of any chess platform, tournament, or opponent agreement; (b) interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure; (c) reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or copy the Service or its source code except as permitted by law; or (d) use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
Camera processing happens locally on your device. If you opt in, the Service may send anonymized diagnostic data — such as board positions, detected-move evidence, and non-identifying camera health — to help improve move detection. This data excludes images, video, audio, device identity, and account credentials. You can disable diagnostic reporting at any time in the Service's settings. Any optional free-text note you submit with a report is sent only when you choose to send it; do not include personal information in it. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
The Service and all associated software, content, and trademarks are owned by OTBSync and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Except for the limited right to use the Service as intended, no rights are granted to you. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the Service or its source code. The Service also distributes certain third-party open-source components (such as the Stockfish chess engine) that remain under their own licenses; these are listed, with required notices, in the project's third-party notices file.
Feedback. If you send us suggestions, ideas, bug reports, feature requests, or other feedback about the Service ("Feedback"), you assign to OTBSync all right, title, and interest in that Feedback, and to the extent such assignment is not effective you grant OTBSync a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use the Feedback for any purpose without compensation, attribution, or obligation to you. Feedback is voluntary, and we may use or ignore it at our discretion.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that move detection will be accurate.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OTBSYNC AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, RATING, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED USD $100 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PRIOR TWELVE MONTHS, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless OTBSync and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms or the terms of any third-party platform you connect.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, including for any violation of these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice, such as a notice within the Service, in addition to updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts located in the State of New York.
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
